As many of you know, I am on the Board of CO/LAB Theater Group, a nonprofit that provides a creative, collaborative and safe space for individuals with developmental disabilities to express themselves through theater. Dusty has been a CO/LAB Actor for 7 years, and I am also a Supporting Artist. Dusty and I had the absolute thrill this year of performing in Strange! The Musical which was the culmination of our year-long Musical Theater Production Class. The first half of the year we developed a themes and a narrative for the story which provided inspiration for our phenomenal book writer and composer/lyricist, AA Brenner and Jack Mitchell. Over the winter break, they wrote the musical, and we spent the Spring in rehearsal (pictured above). In May, Dusty and I had our off-off-off Broadway (Brooklyn!) debuts along with our phenomenal ensemble as we presented four performances of this heartwarming and touching musical mystery.

This year, CO/LAB’s annual fundraising campaign has an important goal: to preserve our core programming, which includes our weekly classes, theater workshops, performances, and community events at no cost to our Actors. Your contribution is critical and has a direct impact on our Actors, providing them a place where we can “create and perform and we can be” as our theme song goes. “It’s a place for you and me. It’s C-O-L-A-B.”

As I reflect on this year’s ensemble, I am so touched by the love and support that every single Actor, Teaching Artist, Supporting Artist and programming and production crew member emanated every single second we were together. If only every moment could be a CO/LAB moment!
